Every course at Game Institute has an assigned number of Time Blocks. Each Time Block represents a one-week period of access to private classroom forums and live discussions. You will be able to see how many blocks you have remaining for each enrolled course on your Classrooms page after you login to the site.

Time Block usage is handled automatically for you by the system. If you are already inside an active Time Block, you will be able to immediately use the forums and live classrooms. If you do not have an active Time Block, then when you attempt to enter a live classroom or forum, you will be asked to activate one of your Time Blocks. This new block will expire in 7 days.

This approach allows you to manage your time as you see fit. If you need to go on vacation or if you simply wish to take your time going through the material, you will still be able to get assistance or interact with fellow classmates, but now you select when you want that to happen.

All Time Blocks have an expiration date, generally 1 year (make sure you check the course detail pages for information). If you only use up 5 out of 10 Time Blocks for a given course, when you return to the site, you will still have 5 blocks left in that course. This will be true even if you come back six months later!

Time Blocks allow you to shape and define your learning experience. If you are just getting started, you might choose to treat your blocks as a classroom experience and show up each week while you are learning. Perhaps this will put just the right amount of pressure on you to keep yourself motivated. If you are a more experienced developer then perhaps you would use your Time Blocks to get course topic related technical assistance only when you need it.

When you have used up all of your Time Blocks for a given course, you will no longer be able to attend live classroom sessions or post on the private forum for that class. However, you will still have read access to the class forums to check any responses to your questions, and will also retain full access to our public forums and live chat rooms.
