Tools / Software

The Game Institute provides proprietary software to enhance your training. While our curriculum focuses on the implementation side of the development process, familiarity with level design tools and related 3D game creation software promotes understanding of the overall game building experience and is an important skill for candidates seeking industry employment. Some of these tools from level design software to 3D game creation software are included free with all courses, while others will be made available only in select courses.

Game Institute BSP/PVS Compiler (version 1.0)

3D engine developers understand that spatial subdivision techniques can often be the key to achieving optimal application performance. While there are a number of different techniques to choose from, Binary Space Partition (BSP) trees are one of the most popular spatial partitioning data structures at your disposal. They can be used to speed up many of the most common operations in 3D engine programming: polygon sorting, visible surface determination, collision detection, line-of-sight determination, ray-casting, etc.

The Game Institute BSP Compiler is one of the most stable, full-featured, and accurate BSP tools on the market and provides significant benefit to users of the GILES™ level editing software.

Features Include:

  • Potential Visibility Set (PVS) calculation, compression and export.
  • Illegal geometry removal.
  • Hidden surface removal.
  • Exterior surface removal.
  • T-Junction repair.
  • Real-time preview of compiled level with 3D fly mode.
  • Exports split or non-split polygon sets.
  • Detail object support.
  • IWF and Half-Life™ level import.
  • ...more...
