Mickey began his professional programming career during the early 80’s designing and
developing applications for local companies in his hometown of Placerville,
California. After completing his service in the United States Navy, Mickey
graduated from California State University at Dominguez Hills. He immediately
began his games programming career at Konami where he worked on such games as
Project Overkill, Broken Helix, and Lethal Enforcers. He went on to work for
Ensemble Studios on the very successful Age of Empires, and later Ion Storm’s
Doppelganger along with minor contributions to other projects. Mickey also spent
some time working at Acclaim, where he helped develop the main engine used for
most of the Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast titles developed by the company. He now
works for a small startup company doing video compression, sound, networking,
and driver programming. Mickey is also the author of the very popular book
Real-Time Strategy Game Programming, which is due to be republished this
